What We’ve Been Up To Lately at Hopscotch Nursery Oxted

At Hopscotch Nursery Oxted, the children have been busy exploring, creating and learning through a variety of engaging activities as we continue to enjoy the summer term. Our carefully planned activities support children’s development across all areas of learning while encouraging curiosity, creativity and confidence.

Developing Fine Motor Skills

Recently, the children at Hopscotch Nursery Oxted have been practising their fine motor skills through threading activities, creating their very own porcupines. These activities help to strengthen hand-eye coordination, concentration and the small muscle movements needed for future writing and everyday tasks.

Fine motor activities are an important part of early years education, helping children build the skills they need as they progress through their nursery journey and prepare for school.

Sensory and Imaginative Play

Our sensory trays have been full of exciting opportunities for exploration and imaginative play. The children have enjoyed a range of small world activities based around ocean, under-the-sea and animal themes.

One of our favourite activities has been creating safari scenes, where children explored lions and other animals using shaving foam to add a sensory element to their play. We have also been diving into ocean-themed adventures, using water, stones and a variety of natural materials to create underwater worlds. These activities encourage curiosity, language development and imaginative storytelling while providing rich sensory experiences.

At Hopscotch Nursery Oxted, sensory play is an important part of supporting children’s communication, creativity and understanding of the world around them.

Father’s Day

Father’s Day takes place on Sunday 21st June, and the children have been busy preparing some special creations to celebrate the important dads and father figures in their lives. Keep an eye out for their wonderful surprises and heartfelt gifts.

National Thank a Teacher Day

Wednesday 17th June marks National Thank a Teacher Day. It is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication, care and enthusiasm shown by teachers and early years practitioners every day. We are incredibly grateful to our fantastic team for the positive impact they have on our children’s learning and development.

Looking Ahead

As we approach the end of the summer term, we are looking forward to celebrating all the progress and achievements the children have made throughout the year. For those who will be leaving us to begin their next adventure, we are planning a special graduation celebration to wish them every success as they move on to the next chapter of their learning journey.
